Catalytic convertor thefts from vehicles are becoming a regular occurence
They are stolen for the scrap value of the metal inside them. Following are a few tips you might like to consider particularly if you leave your vehicle in a remote location.
Tony Ellis
Theft Prevention for Catalytic Converters
The catalytic converter is an emission-controlling device that is a part of the exhaust system of many automobiles and trucks. It uses a platinum-iridium catalyst to oxidize pollutants before they can be released into the air, and it converts carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. The platinum on the converter makes it a valuable device and theft is a common concern. Protecting your catalytic converter from theft needs to be a priority.

Figures for 2009 published today (11 January) by BAA make a mockery of the airport operator’s claims that it urgently needs planning approval for a second runway at Stansted Airport.
The full year figures show that Stansted handled fewer than 20 million passengers last year, the lowest annual total for six years. There was an even sharper decline in the number of flights where last year’s total of 156,242 made it the quietest year for the Essex airport since 2002.

As I have been informed by the Police recently that this matter is now concluded, I feel at liberty to write about the incident involving my son at the Little Hadham traffic lights in January this year.
Since moving to Standon Road in 2007, I have walked to and from school most days with my children. I am always extremely vigilant beside the road and although the boys like to race ahead of me, as boys do, they know to always wait at the traffic lights so that we can cross the road together. I have seen cars ‘jump’ the lights on red, from the direction of Much Hadham many, many, many times and I always wait for the traffic to stop before telling my boys to hurry across.

Three burglaries have taken place in High Wych, Eastwick and Allens Green
Between 0355 and 0434 hours on Friday 25/09/09 at a farm in Eastwick two male offenders drove onto the site in a van - type vehicle - index unknown - they went to the rear of the site and approached the portable office which has an inward opening door.
They have forced the top and bottom padlocks open and conducted an untidy search of the office - taking several items - offenders have then located master keys for the entire site and systematically opened every container - leaving the padlock and key for each container outside the front of each container - offenders have then tried to force open a small outward - opening door at the rear of the portable office which gives access to the warehouse - this attempt to gain access was unsuccessful - they have then made off in their vehicle in the direction of Harlow
Between 1100 and 1459 hours on Saturday 26/09/09 a burglary has taken place at a home in Allens Green where offender (s) have entered the property by forcing the lock on the front door , they have made an untidy search of the whole property apart from the kitchen which had a dog in it . They have taken a number of small high valuable goods and have made off in an unknown direction.
And also between 1140 and 1425 hours on Saturday 26/09/09 offenders have entered a home at a farm in High Wych where they have forced the lock on the lounge window - they have made an untidy search of the property and have taken mobile phones and keys to the car - offender then removed the vehicle from the drive and left in an unknown direction. The vehicle was a silver jaguar.
Some of these premises have been left unsecured during the day whilst people have gone out. Even double locking doors and making sure windows are closed can deter these persons for committing this type of crime. Any information please contact PC Fegan on 08453 300222 |
